Do your daily web browsing activities include reading your email, blog-surfing, checking your stats, and seeing who posted on your Facebook wall? Bingo. You already have access to and knowledge of one of the most profitable, high traffic sources for lead generation. So, as you may have already guessed, I’m talking Facebook.

Facebook boasts that it has over 400 million active users, with 50% of those people logging in daily for an average of 55 minutes. The sheer volume of Facebook users makes it a killer platform for targeted ads like dating sites, insurance, and education offers. Although it takes some time to research your target audience and abide by Facebook Advertising Guidelines, it’s definitely worth the effort. I personally know an affiliate who made over $1 million profit on Facebook alone in 2009, and I know many others who consistently make $1000+ a day profit using Facebook advertising.

How to grow your Twitter following

Social marketing is becoming the new source of traffic for many affiliates and companies.  As an affiliate, you can leverage this traffic and start making money by using sites like Twitter.  There are many tools out there on the marketplace to help you generate income with Twitter, but one I have been playing around with recently has worked pretty well for me.  It’s called Social Snipe, and it was created by my friend (and well known affiliate marketer) Ian Fernando at IanFernando.com.  You can use this tool to build a massive, extremely targeted following on Twitter — and once you have a large following, you can start tweeting about products that your followers are interested in (directing traffic to your landing pages).  There are a couple pretty cool features that this program offers:

1. The follow tool allows you to either follow the followers of certain twitter accounts or you can follow accounts which have tweeted about a keyword of your choosing (you can even choose to only follow people who have tweeted the keyword in the past X tweets).

2. Geo targeting Twitter users. You can find users within a certain distance from your IP.

3. Time based following and tweeting. By using this feature, you wont get flagged by Twitter and have your account blocked.  You can schedule your tweets as well so it looks like you are constantly using your Twitter account.

4. Unfollow users that are not following you back. If you follow 500 people and only 200 follow you back, you have the option to unfollow the 300 who did not reciprocate your follow.

There are a bunch of other cool features but I wanted to highlight these since I think they are the most useful.

Top 25 Ad Networks of 2009

Affiliates are constantly asking me to tell them about new traffic sources where they can test offers.  Every year, Comscore.com puts out a list of the top advertising networks (based on reach to US internet users).  Jack Flanagan, Comscore executive vice president commented that “it almost seems that new ad networks are emerging every day, each aimed at helping advertisers achieve their campaign objectives, whether it’s to deliver reach and frequency or to target a specific audience segment.”  With increased competition among advertising networks, I would expect the quality of self serve platforms to increase, with more demographic targeting options and better customer service to attract more publishers and advertisers alike.  If you are interested in getting involved in media buying, be sure to review this list to learn about your ad placement options.

Appreciation Post

Back in December one of my publishers sent me a Christmas card and a Vancouver 2010 Olympics branded Visa Gift Card (amount will remain undisclosed!).  Very cool.   Just wanted to thank him publicly for his generosity.   I look forward to a continued prosperous relationship with him in the new year, along with all of my other colleagues, clients and publishers.

Simple scripts you can add to your LP to make more money

I’m gonna keep this post simple and to the point.  There are a couple scripts you can add to your landing page that will almost certainly increase both CTR and conversion rates.   The first the Current Date Script, and the second is the GeoIP script.  The current date script allows you to have the date shown on your page (whether it be the date of comments, or at the top of the page) dynamically change based on the date the visitor arrives at your page.  The GeoIP script allows you to have the Country, Region, City of your web visitors display on the page.  Having these scripts placed on your page (in the right spots, of course) will make your landing page seem more relevant and current to your visitors, and will be sure to help them click through to the offers you are promoting.
